CHAPTER 34 The Cabin-Table

Itisnoon;andDough-Boy,thesteward,thrustinghispaleloaf-of-breadfacefromthecabinscuttle,announcesdinnertohislordandmaster;who,sittingintheleequarter-boat,hasjustbeentakinganobservationofthesun;andisnowmutelyreckoningthelatitudeonthesmooth,medallion-shapedtablet,reservedforthatdailypurposeontheupperpartofhisivoryleg.Fromhiscompleteinattentiontothetidings,youwouldthinkthatmoodyAhabhadnotheardhismenial.Butpresently,catchingholdofthemizenshrouds,heswingshimselftothedeck,andinaneven,unexhilaratedvoice,saying,"Dinner,Mr.Starbuck,"disappearsintothecabin.
